Fun in the sun (Sunny Miami)

While this winter hasn't been the best here in Georgia, I thought it was about time I headed to someplace with sunshine. So while we were having our second winter weather storm yet again. I spent my time here in sunny Miami.

there is nothing like the sound of the ocean, the sun, and a warm breeze. I am so thankful and grateful that I was able to get away and miss the ice storm. It was was my BFF's birthday so we did all the fun stuff we love to do, like  the beach, plenty of girl talk and shopping,(Sawgrass Mill, where the shopping is great; Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Burberry,  just to name a few). To be able to just walk out to the beach everyday...wonderful. Miami Beach you're a great getaway! Thanks for the sunshine, blue skies and great weather.

Walls without commitment

For those living in an apartment or wanting temporary wall coverings, we all know the biggest impact comes from color so go ahead and paint an accent wall, as done here:
( just be ready to repaint it back to it's original color before you move out, If that's your rental management's request). But you can also go another route by using fabric or sheets as wall coverings.  Using nothing more than some beautiful fabric(cottons work best) or sheets.a good plumb line, fabric cutter ruler and liquid starch.
Let me forewarn you this can be a little messy going up but once done can have a huge impact and it's easy peasy to take down. this technique does not work however in rooms where there is a lot of moisture like bathrooms, so any entry, bedroom or living space would be your best option. HGTV does a great job of explaining how to do this, click on this link :  http://www.hgtv.com/decorating-basics/how-to-install-a-fabric-feature-wall/page-2.html  for more details.

You could also follow Sarah's lead and create some nailhead panels! she tells you how here:http://eastcoastcreativeblog.com/2013/04/temporary-accent-wall-with-grass-cloth.html

Or use some removable wallpaper that I found here http://www.etsy.com/shop/AccentuWall to create something as beautiful as this:

Snowed in in the ATL and thinking Spring Please!

Ok. moved here for the weather . Not so sure anymore. Mother Nature isn't showing anyone any mercy this year. You expect 15 degree weather in some places ...but here? who knew?  I sure didn't. I'm sure if you've been watching the news anywhere , we are the news. Cars stuck on the highway, bumper to bumper, kids stranded on school buses, an icy mess. So for now it's like this:

But I can't wait to see this:

In the mean time I'll be inspired by this  and looking forward to spring, all thanks to Pinterest!

Pantone's Color for 2014

It's being seen everywhere on and in everything. It is both warm and vibrant and pairs well alongside blues ,greens, yellows and most definitely with the new golds ,I spoke of in and earlier post. Pantone's color of the year; Radiant Orchid, is best be described as a plummy mauve. By definition the orchid is a flower of magnificence that brings a universal message of love, beauty, wisdom, thoughtfulness, luxury and strength. In China it signifies refinement and innocence .  Radiant; as if radiating light.
How pretty is this ! just a pop of that color  transforms this space.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the fantastic job my girl Rhonda of Rhonda Peterson and Assoc. http://rhondaepeterson.blogspot.com did using this new color at the 2013 Christmas with Callanwolde Showhouse. What a great use of this color. Her motto is "make it amazing" and she certainly did just that!

Isn't it just beautiful. you can read more about Rhonda at:http://rhondaepeterson.blogspot.com

Here are more beautiful spaces using this color

How about on a ceiling? in a metallic? a gloss? with neutral walls, splashes of it in the room? a suede shade in radiant orchid?  How will you incorporate it in your space?

What's going on ...Gold is back

Happy New Year! I'm hoping 2014 is off to a good start for everyone. I have had so much going on since before the holidays : I have had house guests since the week before Christmas up until last week. My son's on winter break from college so I've been enjoying him being home, while also working on an ongoing project.  Enough said about that . Has anyone noticed that gold is (has) made a comeback ! Not your grandma's gold but a newer, fresher, better gold. I have been noticing more and more in everything from lighting to mirrors to furniture. Spotted this baby at market:

How can you not be inspired by this space:

It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

While Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, truthfully, I have just been too busy to do it justice this year. While I did manage to get the tree up, the mantle and the staircase completed, I still have much to do, but over the years I have realized that things don't have to be perfect to have a perfect Christmas.

My tree is a hodge podge of several things we have collected  over the years, ornaments my kids have made, those that have been given as gifts, and ones I have collected. We call it our memory tree because we can relate most ornaments to a memory at Christmas.

I love a lush mantle and tend to mix artificial garland with fresh greens so that it is both fragrant and full. I also love it to drape all the way to the floor.

With only a few days left to Christmas I'd better get back to business…..
Hoping you have the best Christmas ever! Life Life beautifully!
